a train track disappears into the distance with green hills and trees behind itStaff and students are being encouraged to submit applications to Scotland’s Future Series before the deadline next Friday (March 8).

Launched in January 2022, Scotland’s Future Series demonstrates the University’s commitment to playing an active and apolitical role in shaping Scotland’s future by supporting all staff and students to conduct research and outreach work relevant to this important topic.

The £35,000-per-year fund supports projects which enhance discussion and debate on issues pertinent to Scotland’s future. Those that promote inclusion and interdisciplinary working are particularly encouraged.

Two annual funding rounds offering grants of up to £3500 per project are announced each year – one in Week 3 of Candlemas Semester and a second round in Week 3 of Martinmas Semester – while grants of up to £1000 are available on a rolling basis.

In the last two years, Scotland’s Future Series has supported 23 projects from different groups including staff and students working collaboratively. Scotland’s Future Series has also continued to develop its podcast discussions and sponsored a Union Debating Society event on the motion ‘This House Believes That Scotland’s geopolitical influence is growing’.

For more information on Scotland’s Future Series and how to apply for funding visit the web page. After the deadline, the panel will meet to discuss submissions ahead of a final decision being taken by the Principal’s Office.
