International Women’s Day 2024 – #InspireInclusion

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to champion the power of women’s voices and drive positive change.

We spoke to women across the the University who all have one thing in common – an unwavering pursuit of equality. We asked them why they thought it was important to mark IWD, who inspires them and what they love about being a woman.

What did you want to be when you were young?

I always loved art and design and hoped to do something with that, but never quite got there.  Still love sketching and helping the kids with their art projects though.

Why do you think it is important to mark International Women’s Day?

To support inclusion and equal opportunities for women and celebrate success!

Is there a woman who has inspired you personally or professionally?

I have been inspired by may women.  From a personal point, I know many women who have struggled with various personal issues, but shown pure grit and determination to never let it get them down, and have always prioritised their families to provide stability and growth.  Professionally, since working at the University, I have always had women as line managers.

From past to present, I have always been encouraged to develop and grow in my role, even if it has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and the support and opportunities provided by all these women, past and present, has made me a much more confident woman than I was before I started working at the University.

What is one thing that you would like to see done to help further equality for women?

Equal opportunities and equal pay.

What you love about being a woman?

The ability to seamlessly multitask.
