“The new role of Reward Specialist has been created to help modernise and enhance our approach to reward and recognition.  One of my initial areas of focus will be on the development of the University’s reward strategy which will detail how we plan to use reward, benefits and recognition initiatives to attract and retain the right talent, and to motivate colleagues to perform at their best.

“As well as reviewing and developing remuneration policies and processes, I’ll also be very much on hand to support colleagues across the University on all reward-related matters.

While my work location is Walter Bower House, I’m actually based in Ayrshire, so I have a hybrid work arrangement in place which allowed me to take on this role.

“Being involved in shaping and influencing the University’s reward strategy is, in itself, really exciting and one of the reasons I was so keen to take on the role.

“But I’m also really looking forward to meeting and speaking with colleagues across the University to build a better understanding of what we are doing well in terms of reward and recognition, and in identifying opportunities for improvement.

“I’m actually a returner to the University, having been a member of the HR team between 2004 and 2010.  It’s great to be back!  My favourite thing about being back so far is definitely the team – it may have grown in size and changed a fair bit in the intervening 14 years, but it is just as friendly and as welcoming as I remember.

“In terms of the town itself, I do love the buzz of St Andrews and how the dynamic changes with the seasons and semesters. A walk on the east sands is a must, says my dog, closely followed by a Jannettas’ ice cream, says my daughter!”

Saints in the Spotlight campaign shines a light on our staff, highlighting the variety of talented people that make up our St Andrews community and the work they do.

We promote our Saints in the Spotlight through our staff news webpage and on LinkedIn.

We are looking for colleagues to share their story. Perhaps you have been part of a project you’re proud of and want to tell people about it, or you want your colleagues to know about the work your team does

If you would like to be considered for a Saint in the Spotlight feature, or would like to nominate someone to be considered, please email Linda Barclay Isles, Senior Communications Manager [email protected]
