Cake for cancer support

Charity starts at home, or the office in the case of the Admissions team, as they invite everyone to a charity bake sale in aid of Maggie’s on World Cancer Day (Tuesday 4 February).
Colleagues can drop into the Admissions office on St Katharine’s West (the Scores) from 11am – 2pm for delicious baked goods homemade by the multi-talented Admissions team. Get there early to see the full selection, including gluten free and vegan options.
Tuesday 4 February marks World Cancer Day, a global movement to raise awareness, improve education, and encourage action in the fight against cancer. Admissions chose to direct their fundraising efforts towards Maggie’s which has a centre located beside Ninewells in Dundee.
Maggie’s takes the name of its founder Maggie Keswick Jencks, an incredible lady who started the charity after her own cancer diagnosis. Her idea was that with the right support, “nobody would lose the joy of living in the fear of dying when diagnosed with cancer.” Maggie’s charity is a network of Centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK, providing person-centred professional support for anything from the treatment of side effects to money worries. The Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Dundee (pictured above) with its beautiful gardens and stunning view of the Tay is a tranquil space where people are free to express any feelings while dealing with the realities of cancer.
Grace Durnan from the Admissions team says: “We are supporting Maggie’s to raise awareness for all those who are impacted by cancer. We plan to fundraise through a series of events, and chose a bake sale to start with because many of our staff are keen bakers, and who doesn’t love a sweet treat for a good cause?”
Admissions have already raised over £60 on their fundraising page. They hope to push this total past a target of £200. Online donations are welcome from any colleagues who cannot attend but would like to support Maggie’s.
